Despite the decidedly surfie name, The Surfers Mistress is an Italian Trattoria. Choices of indoor or outdoor dining, we dined outdoors as the sun was sinking, and a balmy evening coming on, the garden feeling very Italian with herbs planted in boxes mounted on the fence, olive and lemon trees surrounding the sunumbrellas and outside tables and chairs. Menu is simple and tasty, nice range of lunch or small platters and salads, an antipasto for two, pizzas, pastas, steak and some gorgeously intense desserts. We had Salsiccia pizza, a lusciously cheesy pizza with Italian sausage and fennel and a hint of chili, on a thin base, Ragu' alla Bolognese made the way they make it in Bologna with egg pasta, beef and sausage and not a tomato in sight, and Italian sausage with maccheroni, also a lush feast with tastes taking you to the Italian countryside. Following with the dessert menu, we had the dessert of the day - a meringue and pastry dish with strawberry coulis, the panna cotta served with blueberries, honey and crumbs, vanilla bean gelato and affogato, vanilla bean gelato served with a hot shot of espresso to pour over. The desserts were tasty dishes with intense flavour and sweetness sized to perfection so you're not left reeling after a sugar overload. Loved the experience, friendly welcome from the proprietors and waiting staff, and unhesitatingly recommend!

My wife and I dined at the Surfers Mistress this month on a Thursday night and were very satisfied with our meal and service. We usually live in Tuscany Italy... read more for 6 months each year and enjoy eating delicious Italian food. The food was equivalent to any of the restaurants that we enjoy in Italy. A good choice of an Italian wine and the service was prompt, and friendly. We have booked to dine there again on 20/2 with some friends. We recommend this restaurant for an enjoyable meal and evening. Ciao

We visited with two friends who had booked a table. We were served drinks and our order was taken promptly. It then took an hour before we got our starters.... read more If we had just been told to expect the wait we would have been more accommodating. Food was lovely and staff friendly.

Wonderful place for a birthday celebration. Nice ambience; background music wasn't too loud. Staff very friendly and pleasant, and the meals were DELICIOUS. Excellent to have great vegetarian options; entrees,... read more mains and dessert were all delicious and perfectly proportioned: we felt replete but not over-full at the end of our three courses. Will definitely be back there.

We arrived In Paraparaumu a day early for our Kapiti Island tour and were looking for a nice restaurant for my spouse's birthday dinner. We wandered into the Surfer's Mistress... read more and were blown away by the Italian cuisine, ambiance, and service. We ordered the Italian sausage rotini pasta and really loved the portion size and flavor. We married the dish with a nice bottle of Chardonnay and the requisite birthday dessert of vanilla ice cream with espresso and amaretto. Over all one of the highlights of our island tour. This restaurant is highly recommended. Very european.
